Designing out waste, reuse and recycling
Overview
This one-day course examines BedZED as one example of a sustainable community, and also uses ecological foot-printing and the 10 One Planet Living Principles as a framework for discussing and designing future sustainable communities. The course comprises three seminars in the morning and a workshop in the afternoon. The morning sessions cover sustainability in broad terms, followed by an in-depth look at the successes and lessons learnt from BedZED through a presentation and tour, then a seminar on the impacts of construction materials and how to specify and source low impact alternatives. In the afternoon session the participants use the knowledge gained in the morning and previous experience, to design a sustainable development using the 10 One Planet Living principles.
