The Sustainability strategy for London’s 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will make it by far the greenest Games the world has ever seen, says London 2012 bid sustainability partner BioRegional Development Group.
As part of a joint initiative called One Planet Living, BioRegional and WWF have worked with London 2012’s environment team to produce a strategy for the Games which has impressed independent environmental experts and may have helped sway the IOC’s decision.
BioRegional, who have over 10 years experience in sustainable development projects, worked closely with London 2012 to research and write the ‘Towards a One Planet Olympics’ report, which details solutions for zero waste and low carbon strategies, local supply networks, sustainable transport, wildlife biodiversity and an ongoing legacy for a sustainable community.
Sue Riddlestone Co-Director of BioRegional said "London 2012 have worked in a true partnership with us on the sustainability strategy. Like the whole of Britain we are so proud of the bid team and we look forward to playing our part in a Games, which will have sustainability at its heart and leave a lasting legacy for East London and for future Olympic Games"
