BioRegional supports building industry to reduce carbon as International Day of Climate Action nears

In order to help the building industry to reduce its carbon impact, BioRegional, as a partner in the BedZED eco-village, is making all its sustainable building research publications now free to download. The move has been timed to coincide with the International Day of Climate Action which takes place on 24th October 2009.

Sue Riddlestone, Director of environment charity BioRegional, said today:
“There is no time to waste when it comes to tackling climate change. The building industry accounts for around 16% of the UK’s carbon emissions and cuts need to be made quickly and cost effectively. That’s why we have made all of our research reports free to download, and what better time is there to do this that when the whole world is taking action!”

BioRegional’s publications include three reports about the pioneering BedZED eco-village; including the Toolkits for Carbon Neutral Developments Parts 1 and 2 which detail costs and strategies, and the latest monitoring report which looks at the environmental performance of the eco-village and what residents like and dislike about living there. There are many more free reports on offer too; covering everything from strategies to reduce construction waste and landfill costs through to developing a waste infrastructure that makes it easy for residents to reduce waste.

NOTES
The International Day of Climate Action brings together organisations and individuals around the world to hold events and actions that draw people’s attention to the need to reduce climate change. The day is coordinated by 350.org - an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. It focuses on the need to keep bring down levels of CO2 in the atmosphere to 350 parts of CO2 per million - the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere.

BedZED is a Peabody development in partnership with BioRegional and designed by BDa ZEDfactory.
