About Simon

Simon Courage Head of One Planet Sutton

Simon Courage has worked in public policy development and implementation for 20 years.  He heads up our work on sustainability initiatives in Sutton in south London.  Before joining BioRegional, he ran his own consulting business, and worked as a senior consultant in a third sector consulting organisation.  His clients have included government departments, such as the Education Department, local authorities, including Brent Council, and third sector organisations, including Commonside Trust (a community development centre).  He has helped them to develop strategy and policy, and supported policy implementation, performance management and organisational change.

Previously, Simon worked as a senior policy adviser in central government, including HM Treasury, Cabinet Office and the Education and Work and Pensions Departments (current names).

Working with the Centre for Parliamentary Studies, Simon regularly teaches public policy skills to groups from the UK and overseas.

Simon is committed to sustainable development and lives at BedZED in Sutton.  He founded and chaired the Future Hackbridge Group, which worked with local residents, public service organisations and businesses to develop a vision for the neighbourhood.  He is now heavily involved in follow-up work to develop Hackbridge as the UK’s first sustainable suburb.

Simon is the vice-chair of the BedZED residents’ association and chair of a non-profit community housing organisation.
