Programme Manager - One Planet Communities, China
Alastair is Director for BioRegional’s China based operations. He works closely with municipal governments and property developers to integrate sustainability during the planning, design, construction and operation of mixed use and residential development projects. Whilst working in China during 2010 and 2011 he was a visiting lecturer at the Sichuan Fine Arts School of Architecture, an advisor to the Chongqing Planning Department on sustainability, a regular speaker for the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Chongqing Municipal Government on sustainable urbanization and a founder member of the Chongqing British Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Working Group. Since 2009 Alastair has been leading BioRegional’s work with the China Merchants Group on the Jinshan development, a UN Habitat award-winning project in Guangzhou, South China.
Alastair’s background is in sustainable energy and planning where he has 10 years experience in managing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects for national and local government, industry, schools and community groups. Before joining BioRegional in 2008, Alastair worked for the Centre for Sustainable Energy in Bristol and consulting engineers Black & Veatch. He studied Geography at Manchester University, and is currently undertaking an MSc at UCL’s Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment in Advanced Architectural Studies, specialising in methods for analysing spatial sustainability in cities and towns. He is an associate member of the Institute for Environmental Management & Assessment.
